Some may recognize themselves in the stories, but rest assured no one will ever know your name or be able to identify you as a character in these stories. You, me and God only will know your name. Born in poverty into a share cropers family in rural Alabama during World War 2. We ate anything we could get anything on a pig that was flesh, we ate it. In seasons, our vegetable of choice was poke salad. This is the leaves of the poisonous pokeweed hat grows wild in the south. A good meal was poke salad, potatoes and salt port. My mother and all the neighboring women knew how to safety handle and prepare the leaves to make them safe to eat. Billy Joe White had a song titled “Polk Salad Annie” that climbed to number 8 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1969.
