Grandma finished her story happily smiling and said “Thank you for being an awesome listener and I hope my old time stories helped you appreciate Mother Nature.” I hugged Grandma as tight as I could and said, your great stories about these amazing native trees helped me use the Flamboyant (flam-boy-ant) tree to make music, use the Lignum Vitae (lig-num-vÿ-tee) tree to make medicine, use the Mahogany (ma-hog-a-nee) tree for its shade, use the joyful and happy flowers of the Saman (sa-man) tree and the Tibet (ti-bet) tree to lift my spirit, and use the Kapok (ka-pok) tree to remind me to be thankful of my ancestors. I love you Grandma and thank you for teaching me the real meaning of “When the Trees Come Alive.”
