Born in Preston in 1931 where I have lived all my life. As the war ended I left school to start an Auto-electrical apprenticeship when I was 14, with strict instructions from my father that I had to go to Night School. With a Higher National Certificate and further study I trained as a Further Education College Lecturer. Membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers followed together with a Bachelors Degree with the Open University. During my career as a College Lecturer in Electrical Engineering I had no inclination to read or write poetry whatsoever. However after losing my wife of 56 years, to brain cancer, I composed my very first poem (Here Still) some 8 months later at the age of 82.
