The author was born in Augusta, Georgia on December 13, 1951 and before he was two-years old, his parents looked at him and realized that he had "promise," so they moved him “Up-South” to the "Promised Land." As a result, he grew up in the slums of Philadelphia and New York City. At eighteen he enlisted into the United States Navy and after serving six years, the author received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy. Jerry Smith is licensed by the state of Georgia as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the state of South Carolina as a Licensed Master Social Worker. He holds the following degrees: Master of Arts degree in Counseling from National University, San Diego, California, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science from National University, San Diego, California, and an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology from San Diego City College, San Diego, California. While completing his Graduate training in San Diego, California, the author read an article depicting the "New South." This article spoke of the increased strides in race relations in the "New South" and he decided to return home to Augusta, Georgia and the "New South" on May 1, 1983, after an absence of thirty years. He has worked extensively in both Georgia and South Carolina penitentiaries and jails providing mental health services to an array of incarcerated inmates, both males and females. In addition, Jerry has held the position as an Adjunct Professor of Social Sciences for more than 11 years at both Georgia Military College and Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. For the past 25 years, Jerry has been in private practice, contracting with various agencies providing Individual, Family, Marital and Addictions Counseling to an array of clientele. This is his third book, the first is titled, “It’s Time to Stop Blaming The White Man,” and the sequel, “It’s Still Time to Stop Blaming The White Man.” Jerry currently resides in Charleston, S. C. with his bride Patricia and dog Buster. Jerry is an experienced Life Coach and Motivational Speaker and he is available to speak on an array of topics including, but not limited to the following: Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco Addictions; Individual and Family Relations; Parenting; Self-Development and Weight Loss, just to name a few topics.
